Sam Hoggins, 27
Sam Hoggins, 27, was a chef in Banbury before he was seriously
injured in a road traffic collision in July 2010.

"I was involved in a head-on collision on the Southam Road,
Banbury, near the village of Mollington. I was cut out of the car
by the fire crew and the WNAA crew rushed me to hospital in
Coventry. I spent two months there - two weeks in intensive
care.
"I broke both my legs, fractured my pelvis, broke my arm, and
had bad internal bleeding as my seat belt had perforated my large
bowel twice. I have a metal plate in my arm and left leg and a
metal nail in my right leg. I have had several operations.
Rehabilitation was lengthy and included learning to walk again
without crutches and lots of physiotherapy.
"I didn't really know anything about the Air Ambulance before my
accident. But I learned afterwards that I would have probably
passed away due to internal bleeding were it not for the
helicopter. I am so grateful for the crew who kept me alive and
have done some fundraising in the restaurant where I used to
work full time before the crash."
