Christopher Batty, 27
Christopher Batty, 27, from Stratford-Upon-Avon is an
inspection manager for an engineering firm. He was involved in a
road traffic collision on the way home from work in August 2010, on
the A46 near Stratford-Upon-Avon.
"While driving home from work on the road that I've driven along
for many years I was involved in a very serious road traffic
accident. I have been informed that when the emergency service
staff arrived they had thought that they would be attending a
fatality incident due to the severity of the accident.
"I had a broken femur, broken feet, broken ankles, punctured
lungs, broken clavicle and various cuts. However, thanks to the
hard work of the fire and air ambulance crews I was freed from the
car, stabilised and immobilised before being flown to University
Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire by the WNAA when the trauma
team there took over my medical care. I remained in hospital for
more than two weeks.
"Being able to visit the base at Coventry Airport and meet some
of the crew that attended to me on that day was something that
meant a lot to me and my wife Sarah. It was not until I needed
the services of the air ambulance that I realised how important the
service is and how much of an impact it can have in saving lives,
not just in respect of road traffic accidents but for all manner of
medical emergencies."
Christopher has now gone on to sign up to be a WNAA community
supporter and will use his experience to inspire other people to
support their local Air Ambulance.
