RYAN'S STORY... “It was an area that I had climbed before; I was just unlucky this time.I was climbing a steep rock when a peg that I was suspended from came out of the rock. I fell 8m to the ground and the sharp peg, which had been bearing my weight pierced my chest.
Immediately friends called for help. I was bleeding heavily from my chest and in a great deal of pain.
The Air Ambulance were quickly on the scene and immediately I felt safer. It was so worrying having a bad accident in such a remote area I wondered how help would manage to get to me.
When the team arrived they calmed the bleeding, eased the pain and made me feel more comfortable. I suffered spinal injuries and a fracture and dislocation to my wrist. My wrist was actually put back into place on the scene by Doctors, clever hey.
When the Air Ambulance arrived we were so relieved and my friends were more concerned and excited about seeing the helicopter than making sure I was OK!
I’m doing well now and even though its hard to believe, I’m even back climbing, I’m so thankful to Dylan and Sonia from the Air Ambulance who saved my life.”
