Jack Beddow, 11

Jack Beddow aged 11 suffered a seriously fractured skull when he fell from a wheelie bin in the playground at his school in Castle Donnington. The Air Ambulance were quickly on scene, stabilised Jack and then air lifted him quickly to hospital. Jack’s Dad works in Derby and was contacted by the school to say that Jack had an accident and as he was driving along the A52 to meet Jack at hospital he could see the Air Ambulance lifting off and he knew that his son was safe on board! Here is a letter Jack wrote to the crew thanking them.

Dear Air Ambulance

I am writing to you to explain how thankful I am of you because I could be dead right now if it wasn’t for you.

First of all I would tell you about how well you treat me in my school office. Though I must say I didn’t enjoy having the needle kept in my arm it kept irritating me. But otherwise I was alright.

I enjoyed going in the helicopter. I just wish it was under better circumstances but you can’t change that. I would just like to say when we were taking of my head teacher said that you almost hit the rugby posts (he’s a big fan of rugby). But it was really funny when he told me about it.

My life so far is great but I’m really annoyed that I can’t play sports. P.E is my favourite subject and I have to miss but it’s for the best.

Everyone has been asking me what it was like in the helicopter and I’ve only been able to say that it was like a car and all I could see were handles and signs. The only different thing about my life now is that all my teachers have said to me is ‘your back’.

Once again I say thanks for all the things you have done for me.

From Jack Beddow A.K.A. the boy with the fractured skull.
